Open Enrollment is now!!!

Draper Youth Service Day Statistics

Hi Everyone! You all did a great job with Draper Youth Service Day and made it a great success. For a first year event, the turnout was very high. I was especially pleased with the individual projects throughout the city. Everyone did a fantastic job and the organizations helped were very pleased. The work at Draper Park was incredible! Thank you to everyone who gave so much of their time in service on a busy, busy day.

Here are some general statistics for the day and a summary of activities, for those interested:

General Statistics
Between 450-500 people came to the event and service projects, completing over 1100 hours of service on Saturday alone. This doesn't even include all the items given by the community to the donation stations.
The 5K Race and 1K Fun Run raised $7,800 for the Walk From Obesity organization.
14 donations stations
29 information booths- about a dozen with service activities
1000 children's books given away
15 youth-organized service projects throughout the city
Over 40 blankets made for the animal shelter
77 pairs of fabric flip flops prepared for the humanitarian center
ARUP had 20 blood donations
Some of the interactive service activities included:
DDI Vantage Early Intervention - Making "T" seats for in home visits
March of Dimes - Making greeting cards for families with babies in the NICU
American Red Cross - Writing letters to soldiers
International Rescue Committee - Making hygiene kits
Draper Animal Shelter - making fleece blankets
Karing for Kids - selling blankets and bears
LDS Humanitarian Center - making fabric flip-flops
Summit Academy - decorating quilt squares for blankets for Primary Children's Hospital
Heart Change Ministries - assembling backpacks with school supplies
The Reading Tree - gave away 1000 children's books
Salt Lake Youth Services - writing letters to children of deployed soldiers for Operation Military Kids
Service projects throughout Draper City were:
Honey Bee Park - Eagle Scout project planting 5 shade trees
Draper Animal Services - cleaning cages, laundry, organizing supplies, walking dogs, playing with cats
Parks and Trails - trail clean up at Orson Park Trail Head
Draper Park - 5K Race and 1K Walk/Fun Run
Draper Historical Society - pulling weeds and clearing the garden area
Wentworth Retirement Home - games with residents, hand massages, singing songs
Draper Senior Center - cleaning gardens and pulling weeds
Beehive Homes - Alta HS Madrigals performed for residents
Stratford Special Care Center - games with residents, singing songs, reading together
Draper Park - picking up trash in the river that runs through the park
Draper Rehabilitation Center - Play-Doh sculptures to celebrate National Play-Doh Day, table games
ARUP - Blood Drive
Food Drives at Channing Hall, Alta High School and Juan Diego High School

This new annual event was discussed. There are many committees doing service all around Draper on the 18th. More details and sign up sheets/assignments will be made this coming week at DYC meeting.

BBQ

We ate yummy food and chatted. Thanks to Sierra for coordinating that. Afterward, we played games, including 'mingle mingle' and red rover.
